Step 1: Payment form on DIK website
In a first step, you complete the payment form section "YOUR DATA". The necessary fields have a flag (*). Please assure that you have read the general terms and conditions (pdf) carefully and activate the appropriate checkbox.
The section "SUMMARY OF PAYMENT" shows the results of your completion. The field "Total" shows the amount of money which will be payed. Please check if the shown summary fits your wishes. Changes have to be done in the upper section. It is not possible to make changes directly in the summary section.
Before clicking on "Next step: credit card transaction" in section "GO TO NEXT STEP", please check all your input carefully. No changes are possible after the next step.
By clicking on "Next step: credit card transaction", your input is checked on completeness. (It is not checked on misspelling.)
- If you forgot to complete necessary fields, a popup window appears with a list of the empty fields. After closing the popup window, you are able to complete the form.
- After successful check, Step 2 follows.
Step 2: Credit card transaction
After successful Step 1, a new window opens. You can see a screenshot here. This window is not part of the DIK website. It belongs to our partner
Sparkassen-Internetkasse which carries out the credit card transaction. All data of this window are transfered with https (Hypertext transfer protocol secure, see below).
You will be asked for
- credit card number (only MasterCard or Visa)
- credit card expiry date
- credit card verification code
By clicking on OK, your data will be checked. After a successful check, your credit card is charged. This information is additionally sent by mail to the financial accounting at DIK. A new window with an affirmation message appears - you are back on the DIK website and the transaction has been completed.
If the credit card number is wrong or any other error occurs during transaction, but also if you click on 'Cancel', the (empty) payment form will be opened again with an error message 'Payment attempt failed'.
How safe is it?
There are three critical steps during the payment by credit card via internet:
- Entering the data
- Transfering the data
- Storage of data
Case a) Entering the data
It might always be that the computer you are using is infected with harmful software like keyloggers, trojan horses etc. In this case, everything which you type on your keyboard might be abused. Please ensure that you use a computer with actual anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Never type in critical data if you are unsure about the safety of the used computer.Additionally there might be a problem in the settings of your browser. Several browsers offer to save the contents of forms for a later auto-completion. You should disable this feature (depends on the browser) and delete the saved data. After completion of critical forms, especially when you leave the computer, you should close the browser.
Javascript has to be enabled in your browser to fill out and check the form. Javascript can be used to abuse your computer. You can reduce the risk by using the newest service packs for your operating system and by using the newest version of your browser.
Case b) Transfering the data
There are different methods and protocols to transfer data on the internet. The transfer is only 'safe' (rated by state-of-the-art), if the data is encrypted with a so-called safe method. On the internet, https (Hypertext transfer protocol secure) is state-of-the-art for safe transfering of data.In our case, the credit card information is transferred via https by our partner
Sparkassen-Internetkasse.
You can verify the use of the safe transfer protocol in the properties of your browser window. Depending on the browser, you mostly can open the window properties by clicking the right mouse button in an empty part of the browser window (not over a link, graphic, text etc.). There you should find the safety information and the information about encrypting.
Please note that in our case only the frame window for the credit card transaction is transferred in https, not the complete frameset. Therefore, you will still find the http-address (http://www.dikautschuk.de/ise2007/index.html) in the address field of your browser.
Case c) Storage of data
Stored data could be hacked and abused. Sparkassen-Internetkasse saves the credit card data only for the statutory time in a safe place. After that, the credit card data will be deleted completely.Your credit card data are NOT transferred to DIK. The DIK neither receives nor stores credit card data.
