The Processing Methodology department deals with continuous and discontinuous compounding, extrusion, calendering and injection moulding as well as with research and development of novel elastomers with nano-scale fillers. The substantial range of equipment enables the analysis and optimization of manufacturing processes in collaboration with industrial partners. The close collaboration with the material-orientated departments at DIK is the precondition for the solution of complex problems, where material and processing aspects cannot be treated independently from each other.

Mixing Process

  • Compounding with internal mixer and twin-screw extruder
  • Optimization of mixing process and monitoring
  • Thermoplastic elastomers (dynamical vulcanization)

Manufacturing processes

  • Calandering (bubble-free calandering)
  • Extrusion
  • Injection moulding (two-component thermoplastic-elastomer

Processability of mixtures

  • Rheology and vulcanization kinetics

Novel reinforced elastomers

  • Nano fibres in rubber mixtures (cellulose, carbon nanotubes)
