The Processing Methodology department deals with continuous and discontinuous compounding, extrusion, calendering and injection moulding as well as with research and development of novel elastomers with nano-scale fillers. The substantial range of equipment enables the analysis and optimization of manufacturing processes in collaboration with industrial partners. The close collaboration with the material-orientated departments at DIK is the precondition for the solution of complex problems, where material and processing aspects cannot be treated independently from each other.
Mixing Process
- Compounding with internal mixer and twin-screw extruder
- Optimization of mixing process and monitoring
- Thermoplastic elastomers (dynamical vulcanization)
Manufacturing processes
- Calandering (bubble-free calandering)
- Extrusion
- Injection moulding (two-component thermoplastic-elastomer
Processability of mixtures
- Rheology and vulcanization kinetics
Novel reinforced elastomers
- Nano fibres in rubber mixtures (cellulose, carbon nanotubes)
